My time at Salford Business School

My time at Salford Business School has prepared me for a future career in Social Media Marketing over several different modules I have taken part in. When I first started University in 2019, I had no idea what sort of path I wanted to take or what job I would end up in. After I completed my first year of Events management, I still didn’t have a set path of career as nothing seemed to jump out at me. From September 2019 to March 2020 university was a pretty ‘normal’ experience within person lectures and seminars however from March onwards, the rest of first year was all remote through blackboard which I struggled with a little more due to not having face to face help and limited times to get in contact with people.

During my second year, unfortunately our lectures were still being done remotely. However due to having the past few months online in first year this wasn’t as much of a shock and we worked ways around this. I enjoyed my second year and felt a lot more involved in the course. One module, Young Enterprise helped me explore different avenues within Events Management. During our project I found myself thriving in the marketing sector which I never knew I had an interest in, due to not having much background in marketing itself this shocked me at how well I took to this module. This assignment alone helped me expand my skills and gain independence and confidence in different aspects of marketing. I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders as I finally found a job role which I could see myself working in!

I am now currently in my third and final year at Salford, back to in person seminars which I am enjoying and feeling more motivated for. So far, the modules in semester one I am looking forward to getting stuck into. The module I am looking forward to the most is Search & Social Media Marketing as this is most closely related to the role I want to go into. I am excited to see what opportunities this brings and to research into Social Media Marketing more. We have been tasked to look into strategies for Social Media Marketing which I have been finding very interesting. Part of this module is this blog which I hope you have enjoyed reading and getting to know about my experience in Salford!

As part of this module, I created a hypothesis to monitor and get an understanding of what social media platform will get the most views and be the most beneficial from a business prospective. I created a LinkedIn post and  TikTok post both stating that if this was seen o like the post. To my surprise, my LinkedIn post had gained over 4 million view in 2 weeks and over 91,000 likes. This has opened up many doors in my social media career due to the range of people this post has reached and the interest people have shown in not only my work but myself too. This module will also be helping me after I have graduated as I can use my website when applying for jobs.

I am very passionate about Social Media Marketing because it is something which I am confident I will thrive in once I graduate from Salford Business School. I enjoy having projects to work on and like to feel productive. I have gained confidence in team-work roles which I didn’t know I had for example being able to lead a team confidently and effectively. To say the least, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Salford and will continue to carry on my skills and achievements I have made at the business school.
